About Sophia

 

Sophia Gibb is a resilient, determined, disciplined, and driven public servant who currently serves as the Elections Deputy for Chaffee County. In her role within the Clerk & Recorder’s Office, she oversees all election functions, ensuring secure, accessible, and compliant elections. She has also been cross-trained in the Motor Vehicle Office, which is overseen by the Clerk & Recorder.

Sophia is a Colorado Certified Election Official (CCEO) and is actively completing the Certified Election/Registration Administrator (CERA) program, a prestigious, nationwide certification recognized as the gold standard in election administration. She is scheduled to graduate in early 2026, further reinforcing her commitment to professional excellence and best practices.

In addition to her election experience, Sophia holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), graduating with honors, and brings a strong background in public service, leadership, and emergency preparedness. Prior to joining the Clerk & Recorder’s Office, she served as a Special Project Coordinator for Chaffee County Public Health, where she led initiatives in emergency preparedness and community partnerships.

Sophia is also widely known for her leadership beyond government service. A two-time Paralympic medalist, multi-time World Champion, and former Team USA Paralympic Team Captain, she has spent years advocating for equity at the national and international levels in sport. She currently serves on the Women’s Sports Foundation Leadership Board and the Little People of America (LPA) Advocacy Committee, and has represented athletes and marginalized communities on Capitol Hill.

In her free time, Colorado native Sophia enjoys being outdoors with her rescue dog, Odie, and her husband, Nick, spending time on the Arkansas River, running trails, cross-country skiing, and competing in the Monarch Town Challenge, depending on the season.

Professional Sports & Media Leadership

 

Sophia Gibb is a two-time Paralympic medalist, multi-time World Champion, and former Team USA Paralympic Team Captain whose journey in elite sport is rooted in perseverance, discipline, and belief in what’s possible. Competing at the highest levels for over a decade taught her the power of opportunity, and the responsibility to create it for others.

After retiring from professional athletics, Sophia remains deeply connected to sport as an on-air correspondent for NBC, helping bring the stories of Paralympic and women athletes to a national audience and expanding visibility and recognition for adaptive sports. Through sport and media, she uses her platform to inspire others, advocate for equity, and amplify voices that too often go unheard.

Women’s Sports Foundation

 

The Women’s Sports Foundation is a national nonprofit dedicated to ensuring girls and women have equal opportunities in sport-from first-time participation to elite and professional levels. The Foundation works to remove barriers to entry, expand access to youth and school-based sports, develop women leaders, and advocate for equitable funding, pay, and recognition for female athletes.

Sophia Gibb serves as a Captain on the Women’s Sports Foundation Leadership Board, where she helps advance initiatives focused on getting more girls involved in sports, keeping them engaged, and ensuring women athletes are valued and supported at every level. Her work includes advocating on Capitol Hill for policies that promote gender equity, equal pay, and fair treatment of women in athletics, as well as supporting leadership development programs that empower the next generation of girls and women.

Through this work, Sophia has been a national voice for access, equity, and recognition, ensuring that girls and women not only have a place in sport-but the opportunity to thrive, lead, and be compensated fairly.

Little People of America

 

Little People of America (LPA) is a national nonprofit organization that supports people with dwarfism and their families through advocacy, education, and community engagement. LPA works to promote inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity in schools, workplaces, healthcare, and public life.

Sophia Gibb serves on the Little People of America Advocacy Committee.Born with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, Sophia brings both lived experience and leadership to her advocacy work. She works to advance policies that protect the rights, dignity, and inclusion of people with dwarfism, while helping amplify underrepresented voices at the national level.

Her involvement reflects a lifelong commitment to accessibility, fairness, and ensuring that people of all abilities are seen, heard, and treated with respect
